Homes have been built/purchased as investments for many years; but it’s not as if the investment produces a profit by any means other than by blackmailing people that need a roof over their head; so the price was only ever going to go up, and at a rate above inflation/earnings otherwise it wouldn’t be an investment. On this basis, the time MUST come when properties are unaffordable for most people. That time HAS come and is, therefore, no accident. Successive governments have allowed those who can afford to buy properties to enslave those less well off by blackmailing them to the financial extreme over a basic need. The energy companies are the same; but the miners with their occasional strikes years ago – they were terrible weren’t they?! Blackmailing us all so they could become millionaires! At least in those days, there was battle – Today we’re trampled over on a daily basis with no argument. Imagine if, when hundreds of years ago, our mud huts were all owned by developers, and the landlords came round at the end of each day and took half of the fish and boar we’d caught, plus half of any ‘money’ we’d collected from surpluses on good days, to pay for that day’s mud hut usage. That’s what we’ve got now. |
