Cllr Lee possibly protests too much. He says: "I am fortunate that I am a member of a political party that has always allowed its members freedom of conscience. We are not Stalinists and rigid adherence to ideological doctrine is not a requirement." He is, in fact, fortunate to live in a country that, broadly, allows its citizens freedom of conscience and where there is no Stalinist political party. However, those freedoms allow us to speak out against the Conservative party on many grounds including its inherent antipathy towards anything local or community oriented. The Conservative government prefers to support the individual money maker who not only gives nothing back to the system that enabled his/her wealth but deprives it further by not contributing to that system through fair taxation. Less of the "Stalinist" rhetoric, please. It trivialises the unimaginable suffering endured by millions during his regime. I'm sorry that the Hole in the Wall is no more. We have enjoyed it over many years. |
