"BA882 is shown on some websites as having landed at the normal time, and on another one about 9 hours late. Cock-up or conspiracy?" There were two BA882 flights today, one from LHR to LHR, and another from LHR to Kiev (KBP). Quite why flightstats.com is claiming one of them arrived on time is a mystery. BA882 (G-EUUT, an Airbus A320) took off from Heathrow at 08:11 this morning. At 10:11GMT, it had reached Ukraine, about half way between the Polish border and Kiev, but then turned round and flew back to Heathrow where it landed at about 13:50. BA then switched the flight to another aircraft (G-EUYI, another A320) which took off from Heathrow at 15:48. It landed at Kiev Boryspil at 18:15GMT. There is no sign of any emergency being declared by G-EUUT. The plane was not given any priority in landing at Heathrow; it did 3 circuits of the holding stack over Essex. I would think it was either (a) a non-critical technical problem that would nevertheless have to be sorted before the next take-off, and BA wanted to avoid doing the work at Kiev, or (b) some sort of air traffic control or airport problem which meant they couldn't land immediately at Kiev, in which case it might be BA policy to return to Heathrow rather than hang about in the sky over Ukraine. I guess we'll never know, but it doesn't look like a real emergancy. |
