As I recall the Sainsbury's recycling bins are run by the store - and presumably they sell the stuff on and make money out of it, reasonably enough.  When recycling facilities were first placed there, quite a few years ago, there was an agreement with the London Wildlife Trust that they would keep it clean and tidy and net the proceeds.  I was one of the volunteers who used to go and check it out and I was frequently appalled and disgusted by what was left there.  Sainsbury's then took it over and it is certainly a much better maintained area than the Council ones on the street.  No doubt some luckless Sainsbury's employee has the job of keeping it clean.  He or she has my sympathy and gratitude.
