If you have a nice bike and leave it anywhere in view to ratboys, they will steal it. I had an expensive Marin, locked using a £100 "Kevlar" lock, to a proper metal bike rack. The salesman who sold me the lock explained that it would require a machine gun to break it. It didn't. The CCTV showed the ratboy stealing it inside 15 seconds. He just sprayed it with CO2 / Ice spray, and hit the lock with a toffee hammer and it shattered into a million pieces. Gone in 15 seconds. I also made the mistake of locking another bike to a plastic drainpipe a couple of years back, they just sawed through the drainpipe and off they went. The only solution is to keep the bike out of the rats' sight. Or remote control explosives packed into the seat post which can be detonated from your phone. |
