Many, many British professionals in London are living in those same conditions because they can't afford non-shared accommodation. Most reports are failing to mention that nurses and most other NHS workers are still receiving annual increments of around 4-5% - well above the rate of inflation. Many other public sector workers in London on low salaries had their incremental rises frozen and are receiving only the 1% and have had massive real term pay cuts over the last five years. I wouldn't deny nurses higher salaries, but to say they've been refused a 1% rise and their pay is frozen simply isn't true. |
