Please, please do not encourage the awful Borrow My Dog website. It is a dog, not a soft toy. If you are the sort of owner who might consider "lending" your dog to a comparative stranger via a website then you need to learn about your dogs emotional needs. Dogs bond closely to humans, often in spite of the way that they are treated. They are supremely adaptable, but they also like security, familiarity and routine. Handing them round like parcels because you don't in fact have time to look after them all the time or can't be bothered to take them on holiday is not a solution. We all need help with looking after our dogs from time to time, but I for one would never hand my dog over to anyone that was not qualified (there are various nationally recognised schemes), insured and experienced with the breed of dog that I own, having also obtained full references. Kennels should be inspected without warning before you entrust your dog to them and you should check that they have been inspected as required by law. I presume that no one has heard from the person who posted the original message? Let us hope that her dogs will not be left unattended. |
