Unless you're in the habit of switching off your fridge to save electricity I strongly suspect the basic tenet of the piece is true and higher government (or most probably EU) standards on electricals are behind some of this. The most painless way to save energy is not to need so much of it in the first place, which has to be done by the manufacturers of equipment as well as by home insulation. The latter we can do ourselves, the former we have to rely on governments to raise energy efficiency requirements. |
