Dan I completely agree with you.But, as you point out you can have all sort of different coatings, and special non glare, non skid preparations.These do push up the price but what I am talking about are the frames.By comparison, the lenses cost very little, it's the frames that are the major expense, and it's those that cost next to nothing to produce.I'm not sure what all this specisl tooling is that is supposed to be needed to produce these frames.As far as I can see you would probably need a mould and a press to turn these out in their thousand, nothing else.There is a company in Alperton, UK Optical who make frames for most of the high street stores.Production costs are a fraction of what the retail price is so if UK Optical can produce a pair of good quality frames for £20, why do they cost £200 in vision express or Boots |
