Did lunch at M Nadra last week and it was quite good (even though there was no sign of the boss).  Nice bit of quail followed by juicy venison briefly shown a sizzling pan).  Far better atmosphere than La Trompette which is much too formal and pretentious for anyone with natural good taste..

Tried Sam's the other week and discovered it's far more cocktail bar than restaurant.  Food's average  verging on quite nice.  But if you drink cocktails at the bar beforehand and have a malt or two afterwards, you get the bill and wonder why you didn't bother going somewhere decent..

…. like Le Vacherin.  This is the opposite to Trompette.  Totally non-stuffy, calm, collected, friendly, cheerful, relaxed....  slightly less 'high-end' foodywise but usually excellent anyway.  I love the main dining room – particularly the low mirrors so nobody has to face the wall...
