| It is not that people don't use an arts centre but in the case of the Waterman's it used to be a wonderfully vibrant venue with an excellent live music programme, cheap café and a great place to take children for Sunday lunch (all now gone). The reasons for its decline are quite complicated so won't go into them here but leadership plus changes in Arts Council priorities have something to do with it. All venues have their ups & downs e.g. Riverside but a clear artistic policy with some flair is a basic requirement and no arts centre can be all things to all people. I will believe all these 'millions' Curzon cinemas are going to invest in Acton when I see the results - if they have all that spare cash why do they keep putting up their prices? Acton does have somewhat better transport links than Brentford by the way. |
