My daughter shares a credit card with me and tried to make a largish purchase on an internet site, the payment wouldn't go through and she mentioned it to me.  I was then called by someone with a strong foreign accent saying they were from the credit card company checking my security details. She said someone had tried to make a purchase of £1 which was not the case and said I could call back if I wanted to.  I called the number on the back of my card and spoke to another person with a strong accent and had difficulty making myself understood and they then said they would put me on to security and left me holding for over 5 minutes so I put the phone down. I am so frustrated.  Bottom line, does it seem likely that the internet company were iffy and thats why the purchase didn't go through and what if any is the significance of the £1 purchase which rings bells.
