It is very disappointing to see that although we have a Disability Act that many people have to give up visiting buildings where they would meet their friends and relations because they can no longer access them. Unfortunately being British we often seem to just stop going and not make an issue of it when we should. Not only that but the places that people would meet eg Day Care Centres are being closed down. I am unconvinced that that there are enough places that people with mobility issues can visit. What happens is that the elderly become prisoners in their own homes. http://www.ageuk.org.uk/ That is why organisations like Contact the Elderly are so important. |
