| It is unlikely anyone wanting to attack you would bang on your door to alert you to their presence.An attacker would be far more likely to hide in the dark, and then catch you by surprise as you walked by.You were almost certainly the target for a proposed burglary.By knocking on your door, he was just trying to ascertain whether anybody was home, and by using the side door, if the house had remained in darkness, and there was no sign of habitation.it would have been easy for a theif to force a door without being seen.Anyone that has a side entrance that cannot be seen from the street should have a bolt fixed inside top and bottom to stop it being forced.It is also a good idea to fit a third hinge to it midway between the others, also to stop the door being forced.An internal chain is also a must for these side doors. |
