Love Me Or Leave Me on Film4 starts in a few minutes (1.25pm).  I've got the CD in the collection so won't be watching.  But it's cold and wet and if you like old fillums (this is a musical/drama) do yourself a favour and tune in..  It's a neglected masterpiece..  moving stuff – and Cagney gives ignorance and ugliness a richly humane face.. James Cagney was (without doubt) one of the very finest film actors of all time.  Doris Day was never in the same league.  But in this wonderful movie, she gives the performance of her life.   Probably because it was impossible to do otherwise, acting opposite one of the greats.. in haste..
