Thanks Elizabeth. What is most worrying about your response is the fact that you feel the need to do this to 'try and establish a working relationship with the Town Manager'. That said, I believe that we, as local taxpayers who are funding her post, should be allowed to ask what she is doing for our community. I can appreciate that it is commendable that you are reaching out to the Town Manager in a social and private setting but she is a public funded employee and therefore is accountable to all of us within the area. My feeling, and I may be wrong, is not a role purely to support local traders but should be supporting our community as a whole. Therefore, if we are not permitted to voice our concerns at this private meeting I shall address my views directly to the Council for feedback and shall make public their response. As Thomas Barry posted earlier about council cuts, surely if we are receiving no benefit from her activities my view, in a purely a commercial business sense, would be to re-direct her salary to support projects benefitting the community at large. For example, does anyone remember the day centre for senior citizens which closed due to council cut backs? How much more wastage goes on that could have saved that centre and others for our community? I am a local tax-payer and as such fully entitled to ask how my money is being spent and to challenge whether it is deemed value for money or not. |
