I just hope he serves the full sentence and isn't let out early

I presume that, other things being equal (his behaviour and level of demonstrated "remorse" plus any specific terms made by the judge), he will serve the normal 50% in prison and then be released on licence for the remainder of the sentence.

That is pretty much how it's been during the whole of my lifetime, so I doubt it will be any different for this criminal.  With the prisons still operating at or beyond maximum capacity, I'd be surprised if anything changed in the near future.
