I believe regular eye tests are still free of charge (the opticians make money from selling glasses and frames etc.) so very easy to get done plus be put on a reminder system.

Certainly D&A in CHR (now part of Boots) who I have always used, seem to have the latest equipment and always feel I have been given a good MoT on my optics when I go every two years for regular check ups.
