| David Mellor has form on being extremely rude to Cabbies and other "members of the public" as politicians and slebs like to call the rest of us. Andrew Mitchell also has form in being abusive and thoroughly objectionable to "the lower orders", going back many years. These people got away for far too long with their awful behaviour. They think that their positions of authority and influence absolves them from any of the normal rules of social behaviour that the rest of us are subject to. They have an overwhelming sense of entitlement. So I think it is excellent that they are now being caught out, and named and shamed. Perhaps some of them will think twice before throwing their weight around and treating ordinary people like dogs. My favourite of all time was a TV documentary about Heathrow Airport, when Prince "Airmiles" Andrew was kept waiting in the VIP room at Heathrow because his flight to Scotland was delayed due to weather. Naturally, he was on his way to a Golf Dinner / Jolly as guest of honour. When his plane was eventually ready to leave, the member of staff was almost weeping with shame, apologising to him for being kept waiting and apologising for the fact that he would be late for the dinner. He looked down his nose at her and said "You really don't understand do you? I shan't be late at all. 350 people will be two hours early". Dontcha love'em? |
