Vicki, I used Safe Clean on my sofas after my old dog kept on licking them (and the kids were always dropping food on them, which was probably why she did that!) and getting slobber patches over them - they were pretty gross but I didn't want toxic chemicals used - these guys did a brilliant job and the sofas came up like new. I can't vouch for the carpets though as we didn't use them for that: http://www.safeclean-ealing.co.uk/
