Long time since I read Hughes, but In the late 90's he published the award winning 'Birthday Letters.' These were a collection of poems which were written as letters to Sylvia Plath in the 25 years after her death. In that collection there was a poem about dogs - 'The dogs are eating your Mother'. Maybe that is what your tutor was referring to.  As this publication became one of the biggest selling poetry collections of all time, I would have thought that your tutor would have advised you to go to the library and/or perhaps google it.

However your tutor may have felt that the 'Jaguar' poem, (which Hughes wrote after watching a jaguar in a cage, and shows both his fear and admiration for this wonderful big cat), could help give you more perspective.  Try to go to the library as they are much more knowledgeable than me and I'm sure they will be very helpful. Good luck!
