Most places in England have a very charmed past. Turner lived in Brentford for a while at what was The White Horse but is now The Weir( Phoney Pony to locals), Van Gogh lived around the corner in Isleworth and non other that Pocahontas lived here with her husband John Smith where the post office sorting office now stands and most of the area was given over to apple and pear orchards. The owner of Syon House( name of Pickering or Pickford I think) did 20 years in The Tower for being involved in the Gunpowder Plot. Not to mention Julius Caesar crossing the Thames with his elephants and Oliver Cromwell's lads going at it hell for leather with the Cavaliers in the parish. There is a pub called The London Apprentice down by the river and the apprentices were amongst some of the first recruits of the New Model Army. |
