I think the so-called Quietways and Superhighways are really for different purposes. Superhighways are primarily for peak commuting and really should be the fastest route from A to B (although they could be used at other times as well) Quietways are more meandering back street routes. I did see a plan for RBK&C's Quietways but it seemed to be a random selection of streets rather than a joined up grid that would take people to destinations they may want to go. If the EW Superhighway, Hounslow and Hammersmith sections of CS9 are built, I think there will be a large growth of people cycling on that route, despite the rubbish provision through Kensington & Chelsea. That may force K&C to do something. One of the reasons for Superhighways is to preserve the bus network. If you mix bikes and buses and the number of bikes grow, the buses will grind to a halt, not to mention the safety issue. |
