This is a confusing picture!First, the Red Lion sign is in the picture, carefully positioned to attract river traffic, but the pub is just out of view on the left. The Ferry was actually beside the church and passengers used the Causeway to walk across the mud and shingle. This image shows the Draw Dock at the bottom of Chiswick Lane, one of the busiest places in the parish in the late 19th century, with goods traffic - building materials, coal, etc - delivered and despatched by Thames barges like the one beached on the right. The whitewashed stone building was the Prebendal Manor House.
