It doesn't matter in the slightest whether Woolf or Butler-Sloss would have done a good job.

If they don't have the full support of all concerned this will just be another monstrously expensive and inconclusive whitewash. And even if it isn't that's how it'll be perceived to any disgruntled party.

Why not ask all interested parties to put forward say three candidates and then vote on that.

More importantly ruddy hell just get on with it, unless were just hoping that everyone will be dead before they can testify....
