Is this against the spirit of the EU? Asking for more money when we are half-way round the game? But we have paid more into the EU each year than we have received - expect 1975 - highest payment in 2000, and in 2010 we paid **double** the sum we got back. Yes double! So France will get a rebate (btw. we got one in 2008) - they have shorter working hours and longer hols. A French friend gets 9 weeks hols each year, and he's not a teacher, or a TGV driver (they get loads and retire early too). How on earth could we be worse off outside the EU - Norway and CH are not in the EU but are in the Free Trade area (is EFTA still going - it was when I was last visiting Brussels)... Germany and the US would do anything to keep us in whereas France is too thick to understand which side its bread's buttered. And our pensions are totally s**** compared to the French, or Spanish or Italians - the Dutch and German state OAPensions are up to 3 times ours. |
