The pressure for Councils to encourage genuine recycling has been reduced since 'energy from waste' has been included in recycling targets. Previously most general waste used to go to landfill but the incineration companies have made the argument that because burning waste generates some electricity then it should be counted as recycling. The recycling depots were there to stop too much of our waste going into black bags and hence landfill which would mean big fines for the Council. Now it doesn't make much difference as Councils will make their recycling targets no matter what bag you put it in. If Ealing have no plans to sell Stirling Road, why are they advertising it for sale? |
