Sad loss as clearly a musician who could do what all great session musicians do which is deliver quickly what the recording really needed in making memorable, and then suffered the low wages and no royalties that all such musicians face for such efforts.

On the Rafferty story, even if Gerry devised the tune on his guitar it was ultimately down to Raphael to interpret and deliver on record, which he did in such memorable style. Rafferty himself is also sadly departed in recent years. From late interviews before his death, quite clear he was a very bitter man having lost nearly all his major earnings to his management company that went out of business still owing him.
