Five of the largest price comparison website in the UK have been accused of hiding some of the best deals available to energy consumers because they do not earn a commission on the sales.

The Big Deal website, which also helps consumers find cheaper energy through collective buying, accused Compare the Market, Go Compare, uSwitch, MoneySupermarket and Confused.com of behaving unethically in filtering their results to hide some the best the best deals.

In a blog post, The Big Deal made a number of specific accusations against the price comparison websites, and says that it has written to them as well as the Competition and Markets Authority and the EU Competition Commission to investigate its claims.

The Big Deal claims that all the the major five price comparison companies filter results based on whether a person wants to switch “now” or “today”, in which case they only showed the results for deals where the website had an agreement with the supplier for an immediate switch and made a commission on the sale.
