Just remember that the majority of LA funding comes from central government, not your council tax. The coalition have made it very difficult to increase council tax and over the course of this parliament have year on year significantly reduced central funding. Some council services are required by law, education, social services, libraries etc so what are LA's to do to save money or realise cash? The Tory model is to sell land, It is what LBHF did, selling every bit they could, education, housing and social service sites, mainly for housing with no 'affordable' allowed. Hence Labour councils are being forced down the same route, selling the family silver. I have no idea if selling Stirling Road is on the agenda, but it would not surprise me. The knock on effect of only having the Greenford depot will not be a priority. The year on year cuts have been cumulative and as we enter the final year of this government LA's face a genuine crisis in their funding...... |
