I agree about the negative aspects of developers privatising public space, The Liverpool One development by the Grosvenor Estate is a prime example and there are many in London Docklands where you have to divert from the towpath. However not all gates are bad! I live in a small close, leading to no where, close by a football ground. The developer put in pedestrian and vehicle gates. This gives some added security and protects the parking. We pay for their maintenance through a service charge, inflated by idiot drivers who keep crashing into very obvious gates....most recently a recycling truck, although the driver did admit the damage so hopefully it will not cost us. This is a gated community I am happy to live in....... |
