It would depend where your step father died. i.e. which Borough.

If it was in Hounslow:

Order a death certificate

You can order a death certificate that is more than two months old from the General Register Office or the local register office where the death was registered. If the death is less than 2 months old or if you require a statutory death certificate you must apply in person.

Please note we are only able to provide a certificate if the Death occurred in the London Borough of Hounslow or at West Middlesex Hospital, Twickenham Road, Isleworth.

For all other districts and hospitals, please contact the local Register Office where the event occurred.

We are unable to provide certificates if you only have a Vol and page number, quarter and District. This is the unique index reference for the General Register Office (GRO) and you should direct your application to them.

Order online

You can order and pay for a death certificate online. It costs £10 for each certificate. You can have your certificate sent to an address or you can collect it in person from Hounslow register office.

All online applications are processed approximately 5 working days from receipt of order. Certificates are posted first class using the Royal Mail Postal Service.

If you request to collect the certificate from the Register Office, we will call you when the certificate is ready for collection.
