Be careful about boarding your cats. Boarding cats often leaves them exposed to picking up disease from adjacent cats - airborne ones, of which there are several, and coronavirus. A lot of cat owners don't know about this disease, but one in ten cats that has coronavirus will die of Feline infectious peritonitis, or FIP) for which there is no cure, and just about every cat who gets FIP will die within weeks or months at best. The best source of knowledge is probably Dr Addie's website at Glasgow University - if you can't find a link on Google, pm me. If a cat that is boarded already has coronavirus - and almost all cats who come from large scale breeders (ie over 6 cats in the household), or who come from rescue homes has it - the stress can tip the cat over into the lethal FIP. It is a disease that many people don't know about, but there are Facebook sites for people who have had the awful experience of seeing their cat die of FIP and the posts there are heartbreaking. |
