A couple of years ago I was at a school event where a young woman talked about her experience on The Apprentice, having been "fired" after the 7th or 8th task.

She made 3 points that I remember.  Firstly, there was no time to do anything as project manager as she was constantly being whisked away to do a piece to camera about how badly everything was going.  She said that she had 5 hours for her task and was either in front of the camera or in makeup for 2 hours of this.

Secondly, those who were not careful to befriend the camera crew are the ones shown with no makeup and / or in their pyjamas made to "answer the phone" in the early morning.

Thirdly, the Boardroom is in an extremely hot studio in Acton, hence the use of the cafe in Park Royal during several series.

I don't think the programme has any merit as a documentary of the hiring process but as car crash TV it can be engrossing.  What I really don't understand though is what Lord Sugar's sidekicks get out of it.  To my eyes, they appear as curmudgeonly old duffers always criticising and looking mournful.  How does this promote their careers?  Yet they come back time and again.
