Pete, Kennedy's car was between 175-240 feet away when the shots were fired.A 6.5mm bullet can easily travel for a mile at upto 3500 feet per second. At that range the bullet would travel in a near flat trajectory so once the first shot was zeroed in,it's just a matter of squeezing the trigger and cycling the spent casing. The car was travelling in a virtually straight line so he would not have to re-acquire the target after each shot.A smaller calibre rifle may have been problematic but a 6.5mm in skilled hands would have no problems getting off 3 shots on target at that distance. It does look increasingly likely that it wasn't the 6.5 from the snipers rifle that killed Kennedy, but the 55grain .223 from the secret service agents AR15 that did the deed. |
