Penny, if it's a dire situation please consider http://www.samaritans.org/ They are available 24/7 immediately on the phone. I sincerely hope that is not the case.

Another well run charity is Mind - http://www.mind-eh.org.uk/. I know someone who lives in Richmond and visited the Richmond branch and was very happy. They do an informal analysis of what you need, they may or may not charge.

Finally, if the situation is tricky (even if it isn't dire), remember your GP is qualified to help as a first point of contact. He/she can prescribe short term anti anxiety medication - some of these are very mild but calm a person down.

Please also be aware that St John's Wort can sometimes have unintended consequences - it is a potent herbal medicine but not consistent in it's effects. If it works, well and good.
