As far as I understand it it is still the case that many homes don't have satellite TV (what is the percentage?) and also I think people really enjoy watching some sports in a group of like-minded people in congenial surroundings.

I believe the problem is that Sky and others charge so much for the service that pubs are unable to make it back from additional sales.
