A lot of people still go to the pub for sport, regardless of whether it's available at home. Me and a group of friends would regularly meet at the George for football games and I still head down to Connolly's for rugby games despite being able to get them at home. That might be the exception rather than the rule, but the George was certainly not doing badly before it closed down. And from what I've heard, the takings at the P&T have gone up significantly since the George got rid of sport. Obviously there is not the market that there was a few years ago when most pubs on the high road showed sport, but it is still a viable business model when done in the right way, IMO.
