I would echo this comment - the most likely thing to go wrong with any laptop is the hard drive failing. This is replaceable, even on MacBooks, and you can put in a new hard drive (maybe £50-£100) or an SSD (maybe £300-£400). Other things that can go wrong are the power supply (this is external, so just replace it), the screen (pricey, but replacing a screen is cheaper than a new MacBook) and the motherboard (maybe time for a new laptop).
