In my view a Con-Lab coalition would not be as weird as it may at first seem. They are not nearly as far apart politically as the cheerleaders of both would like us to believe, and both could use the other as a handy excuse for not conceding too much ground to those on their respective fringes. The difficulty is that the core voters of neither party would stand for it, and also that the whole credibility of the fraud that is "democratic" politics in the UK depends upon the perpetuation of the illusion of two major parties fundamentally at odds with one another, giving the voters a real and meaningful choice. |
