"..no two parties will be able to get to a majority (except Lab and Con in coalition!)" Peacetime coalitions in the UK are relatively rare, but we have managed to have a working coalition for the past four-and-a-half years. In Germany electoral arithmetic forced Angela Merkel to form a Grand Coalition between her Christian Democrats and the Social Democrats, which is roughly the equivalent of a Conservative/Labour coalition. If the electoral arithmetic here forced such a Grand Coalition into being, it is hard to see either Cameron or Milibean Minor surviving as party leader. Perhaps we will end up with Johnson as Prime Minister and Johnson as Deputy Prime Minister, which one holding which post depending on which party has the largest number of seats. |
