I have no connection with the Council nor am I a member of any political party. The current Policy, which is the only document that is relevant, was dated January 2013. As it contains no prohibition on zoning just one street or part of a street the Council is fully entitled to do that and the public has a 'legitimate expectation' that it may do so in appropriate circumstances. Since the updated Policy was introduced the ruling Labour Group has been re-elected with a significantly increased majority. We are where we are. The obvious current candidate for zoning part of a street is west Staveley Road. Interestingly this part has always had a worse parking problem than east Staveley Road so it is something of a mystery why the entire street was not zoned. The operational case for zoning west Staveley Road is unassailable and a private ballot in January 2014 showed that 100% of the residents who replied were in favour of zoning. |
