Re. Rob Reynolds

"Can't see what the issue with buying tickets at Brentford FC. It's a family club right? Why do they make it so hard for an occasional visitor?"

It's not really in BFC's hands. Unfortunately Griffin Park can only accommodate 1,600 fans in the away stand, and Leeds would normally take far more than that to the game.

Therefore to stop Leeds fans buying tickets in the home sections - with all the capacity for trouble which might ensue - BFC imposed their standard policy for such games of making this a ticket-in-advance game, with tickets for the home sections only available to locals/Bees fans who had a previous history of buying tickets.

I don't suppose BFC are totally happy with this - there were still a few hundred empty places at the game, whilst a number of home/neutral/Leeds fans were turned away on the day. But even if they had wanted to admit them freely, the Police (and Council) would never haver allowed it.

This is liable to happen for several other games this season, so if you think you might want to attend a game "last minute", you would be advised to contact the club and purchase a Membership (not expensive, and gives a small reduction on matchday admission prices etc)

Membership Sales are occasionally put on hold before a big game for a period (to stop away fans purchasing a Membership and using that to buy tickets in the home section), but the club will tell you when they're next svsilable (Tel. 020 8847 2511 or www.brentfordfc.co.uk).

P.S. When facing the same situation with Norwich City, because of the less, er, "volatile" nature of their fans, Brentford eased its ticketing controls (eg allowing a few elderly City fans to sit in the home end and opening an extra section for away fans near the home section etc) and that game passed by without incident. That was never going to happen for Leeds, mind, but the stricter controls did the job with them just fine.
