The image is not reversed left to right. It's inverted forward to backwards. So in the reflection, every part of you has been inverted from front to back or back to front, not left to right or top to bottom.

The reason you *think* the image is reversed left to right, is because your brain is interpreting it not as a front to back inversion , but as a rotation about the vertical axis (i.e. someone who has turned around 180) followed by a left to right inversion.

Why does it do that? It's because your brain is used to people and other things turning around about a vertical axis, so that's what it assumes has happened and presents this to your conscious mind. Then you notice things don't appear in the right place, and so interpret the imaginary vertically rotated person as having been additionally inverted left to right to match what's actually seen.
