Consultations can become a tick box exercise to say that there has been one, and summer holiday ones only exacerbate the public's cynicism over a procedure which on the face of it should be welcomed. There have been some great points here in this thread. Dan Evans points out how it isn't as easy to communicate with residents as you would think. Despite the plethora of media available nobody wants to be communicated in a way that they don't or can't personally use. Councils also do seem to think that because they have sub-contracted services out that they have no further responsibility over those services. This can lead to an exasperating lack of liaison between the sub-contractors and Councils over what those sub-contractors are actually providing and the information given to residents on Council websites and in Council literature as to what the Councils expect the sub-contractors to be providing. |
