My 20-year-old washing machine died of old age this week and I ordered a new one from Curry's, paying extra for the old one to be uninstalled and the new one installed. The delivery guy turned up this morning and said that he can't take the old one out because it's hard wired and he 'isn't qualified'. Had a long rant at Curry's on the phone and they are sending someone who is 'qualified' to do the job on Monday. Meanwhile, the new machine sits in my dining room like a big, ugly sculpture. Thing is, Curry's tell me that it is no longer legal to install a new hard-wired washing machine (hence the lack of skills). Does anyone know if this is true and, if so, what the logic behind it is? Wouldn't a hard-wired appliance be safer than a plugged one? |
