My dog is a Siberian Husky. I quote the Kennel Club breed standard "Temperament wise, he is a delight". As I have stated previously, although no canine paragon, he is on a continuous training programme, very well socialised and constantly in close proximity with a wide variety of dogs that he is meeting for the first time. I agree that, notwithstanding Guide Dogs recent dubious statistics re attacks, there is undoubtedly an increase in the number of all types of assistance dogs that have been involved in dog on dog incidents. I do think that it is likely that the dogs with which we have had a problem have become reactive as a result of less well-mannered dogs of the same breed or similar type. I contacted Guide Dogs following the previous incidents but had no response and, as neither had resulted in physical harm to any party, I did not persue the matter. I re-iterate, I only raised this on the forum here to ensure that other owners would be aware of this dog's behaviour and because it is obviously more of a concern for a handler with a disability if a dog might be unreliable for whatever reason. |
