Further to the unfinished repairs and replacement of pavements article Walking down Chiswick High Rd is becoming like an obstacle course many restaurants and cafés are extending their trade so far out to the pavement. Pedestrians, people with buggies and disabled cars etc. are having to now walk a fine line between tables, chairs, rubbish, trees to get down the High Rd. In New York they have a very good system where every trader is responsible for the sidewalk outside their premises and are only allowed to extend their trade approx. 8inches from their premises front. This system is controlled by wardens with tape measures who if they suspect a violation measure and apply on the spot fines to the traders I cannot seem to fine a similar law in London? If not why not? Pedestrians are not cattle to be restricted like buses and cyclists which you do feel like sometimes let's take our pavements back? Also people sit outside these places eating and drinking with all the pollution from the traffic polluting the food they are eating not only are you paying a very high price for but paying a high price with your health! |
