What is often not mentioned is that all the research points to the most effective aspect of the therapy is the relationship between client and therapist and not the type of therapy provided.

Be it psychoanalysis, person centred, CBT, NLP etc these appear to be secondary considerations to the ability of the therapist to create and maintain a caring relationship with and for their client.

Sadly, NICE do not wish to take this into account.  So for anyone looking for a therapist or counsellor my suggestion is to shop around and interview three or four and choose the one you get on best with.  Not necessarily the one you 'like' the best but one from whom you can learn the most.  Also, feel free to move on from a therapist or counsellor you don't feel safe / comfortable or challenged by.

Of course personal recommendation is the best guide but not always available.

Good searching
