I bought something from the 'boys outside Sainsbury's' for the first time today. I asked the chap who served me about the proposed new development and somehow he got to telling me how a woman who lived in a one-bedroom ex-Council flat just over the other side of Turnham Green sold it recently for 'Guess how much?' '£500,000?' I ventured. 'No, £925,000 (or £975,000 - can't quite remember) was the cheery reply. I made vague noises about Council housing having been sold off only to be told that he lives in a 5 bedroom Council house in Hertfordshire - '£68 per week and that includes Council Tax' (and a lovely view to boot). His theory is that it is the plan of the Council to move everybody out there or some such and make a pile out of the new flats. I hope the potato peeler I bought from him works! |
